I am the chosen one

Well, me along with 249 other people but still!
I am so excited that I was one of 250 bloggers/writers to get my hands on a pre-released copy of Jen Hatmaker’s book, Interrupted, When Jesus wrecks your comfortable Christianity.

On her Facebook page last week, they made a post about looking for bloggers/writers that would be interested in hosting this. You had to submit some information along with your website (that had to meet certain requirements to begin with). Having people look at my blog and making a choice whether or not to choose me is a tad nerve racking. I know that not everyone will enjoy what I post about or agree, I am ok with that part & know it happens, but it’s just the fact that my blog content is a factor in whether or not you were picked is intimidating.
They said that they would be notifying people yesterday. I can’t tell you the amount of times I checked my email because I knew I would hear a yes or no. Around early evening I received the email. I ended up reading the subject line (before opening the actual email) a few times before it actually sunk in that this was the email. I finally opened the email.
I actually didn’t think that I would be chosen for this. My blog isn’t a popular one, I don’t get that much traffic, and I don’t have my posts being reposted all over the web. I wasn’t sure that me reading the book & doing a review on it would bring much attention to Jen & her book. They must see/believe something that I don’t. Which is awesome & totally encouraging for me!
I only read the first word & could hardly contain my excitement! I was just thrilled that I was chosen!

book

I only have a short amount of time to read the book and get my review up! I am so hoping that I can do it within the time frame that they have given us. I am just hoping that with the new baby arriving any day now, that they down time I will have from recovery, will allow me extra time to read. Plus I am reading another book with the women’s ministry at my church (that I am totally behind on but hoping to catch up over the next few days).

Anyway, I cannot wait to get my nose in this book & then tell you all about it! I hope that you will check back for the review & go out and buy it once you read it! I am also excited to see what I can/will learn & apply from this book.

Meal planning – how’s it going?

Our family is into the second week of meal planning with a budget. Here is what I planned for our first week of meals.

I wanted to take the time to talk about how it went and if there was anything that I needed/wanted to change for the 2nd week.

Looking at two different ads and trying to figure out what meals, mostly dinner, I could make from the sale items wasn’t as easy as I thought it was going to be. It took much more time that I wanted it to and what I thought it would. That could also be because it was my first time doing it. Once we were all finished shopping at both stores & I added up how much was spent, I have to say that it was an adrenaline rush to find out if we were over or under. (Click the above link to find out!)

So did we stick the the plan!?
Yes, we did! There were a few days where what was on the menu was pushed back to the next day (a friend cooked us dinner one night. Such a blessing šŸ™‚ ) I think there are 3 days that ended up flowing into this week. That made week 2 much easier! (More to come on the 2nd week later)

I posted the menu on the fridge so that I could see it. If I didn’t see it in plain sight daily, I knew that I wouldn’t stick to the plan at all. What I wasn’t expecting is that my kiddos would ask what we were having for {insert breakfast, lunch, or dinner} and I would say something like “Let me look at the menu”. They then began to look themselves & tell me what we were having for that meal. It was mostly my 8 year old only because he was the only kiddo that was home that could read the words. They actually started to look forward to looking at the menu and telling me what was next.

The one thing that I know that I need to change is when I take out the meat. I was taking it out in the morning and letting it thaw all day in the fridge & then when time was closer to dinner I would take it out to thaw in cold water. That didn’t work so well. The meat wouldn’t thaw all the way and would mess up my timing and some nights, it messed up dinner completely. What I started doing over the weekend was to take the meat out the night before & put it in the fridge. That seemed to help more. Hopefully that’ll work out better and not mess up anymore dinner meals!

Another thing that I would like to change is the paper that I am using. There is nothing wrong with just using a piece of notebook paper to display meals. I just want to use pretty paper! It makes it more exciting for me & makes something so boring, something that I will look forward to doing. Which in the end, will make me keep wanting to do this instead of making it a have to. I went on my Pinterest board (Pretty Paper) to see if I had pinned anything pretty that I wanted to use. I didn’t. So I spent some time looking for something that caught my eye. I found a few that I want to use and probably just rotate out so that I don’t get bored.

I found tons but I think that I am going to stick to these 3 unless I find more that I want to add to the mix. I am going to put the paper in a sheet cover so that I can write & wipe each week. Plus I don’t want to keep printing paper off….just one less thing that I want to remember to do.

Overall, it worked much better than I thought & I will keep doing this as long as I have so many mouths to feed šŸ˜‰

Oh! I also found this while looking for printables & think that I will try this too. Will just have to see how it would work for us & where to put it in our kitchen.

Do you meal plan? How do you display it? What is your process for something that can become so boring?
See ya around for meal planning week 2 šŸ™‚

Weigh in #13

I weighed myself Monday (I need to get better about posting on the day, haha!) morning after I drank some coffee, but I am sure that it didn’t change my weight that much.

The scale said 213.9. I am ok with that number this time around.

I know that I keep saying it, and it’s because it’s true, but I need to make an exercise schedule. I have an idea about when I can do it and no worry about the kiddos being with me or having someone watch them for me.
My plan is to get up at 6am every morning and go for a walk and then get up to a run. I set my alarm last night for 6 but quickly turned it off when it went off. It’s just going to take some getting used to.

Plus I found this cool appĀ (thanks Sara!) on PinterestĀ that donates to your favorite charity while you exercise! That is an awesome motivator for me to get off my bootay!

Hopefully this time next week I will be able to report on a week of exercise, how much I have been able to get donated, and less pounds!

How are you doing with your weight-lossĀ journey? Share so that we can encourage & support you!

Wanna play a game!?

She has asked me to help manage her page during the day, which I feel so honored that she asked me, and I want to help her out with sales as much as I can.
So I asked her & ran an idea by her last night about what I had in mind. She said she thought it was a good idea, so now we just have to start the details.

I wanted to help spread the word about the game & share with you all too so if you were interested or know someone who might be you could tell them about it.

We do know that we will be giving away discounts, bogo, and gift certificates as prizes!
We will do trivia questions. With each question there will be an equal prize.

Easy answers get smaller prizes & harder questions get bigger prizes.
I am hoping that maybe we can do this monthly to keep fans coming back & sales up on her end.
Plus this is going to be fun!!!!

So if you want to play, please follow this link to join in! Spread the word too šŸ™‚

Car seat cover + more giveaway *CLOSED*

I haven’t done a review/giveaway for FluffyRumps is too long but I am here with another one!

Most of us, if not all of us, use a blanket to cover our babies when it’s cold outside when they are in their car seats. It is so annoying to me that I can’t keep it tucked under Lily without it moving, falling off, or her pulling it out from underneath herself. I wouldn’t have to check so much to make sure the blanket was still in place and/or fix it when it did!

Thank goodness I don’t have to do any of that anymore! Rhonda as come up with a great idea! I was so excited for it to get cold so I could use this with Lily! I have to admit though, for whatever reason, I had trouble figuring out how it went on. I couldn’t picture it. I felt silly when I looked at the pictures Rhonda has posted on her FB page of these covers. It was definitely a slap-the-forehead kinda moment!

I love the fabric that she uses…..so soft! She has many different in stock covers that y’all can choose from!
I use this cover on Lily every time we go out & it’s cold…even chilly. It beats having to worry about a blanket & keeping it on!

I also found out that it makes for a great cart cover also. Stores are usually cold no matter the time of year anyway, so using this car seat cover as a cart cover in the summer will work out great! I have never used a cart cover before but it just looks bulky. This isn’t! You can just take your baby from the carseat to the cart and not have to take anything off or add anything.

All you have to do is comment under this post, NOT in the comment section on Facebook, I won’t count those comments.

Attention readers…..I may be looking for you!

Ok, so back in September of 2011 I had a giveaway for a jelly knife. I have yet to send these to the winners. I have gotten in touch with a few to make sure their address is still correct from way back then. I have not heard from the rest and one email came backĀ deliverable. If you are named below, please email me (mommieventures@gmail.com) so that I can get your prize sent off to you. If I do not hear from these people in 1 week, then I will just give them away to someone else.

Thanks,
Mommieventures šŸ™‚

UPDATE:

So I noticed that I never added the names of the people that I need to hear from, oops! So if I don’t hear from these people by next Saturday (01/19/13) I will see if anyone else wants the ones that aren’t claimed.

Heather N.
Amber D.
Lily K.

If one of these names are yours, than please email me before next Saturday! I need to make sure that the address you gave me is still the one that you currently live at!

Clothing swap

Now I know that there are consignment stores and events out there, but this is different.

This whole idea started with me asking a friend if she wanted to swap her daughters clothesĀ for some of my daughters clothes. Then I posted on my personal FB page that if any local mommas wanted to swap then to let me know. The first friend said that we should just have a big swap….and that’s what we are doing!

I am super excited and nervous about this though. We are holding it at my church and word is getting around town about the event, which is a great thing, just nerve racking!

This is a free event and there is no need to tag any clothing like there is with consignment events. We are asking for a non perishable food donation to be donated to the churchs food pantry.

It’s going to be in September & I will let you all know how it goes! We already have plans in the making for the next one if this one is a hit!

Wraptasitic!

A friend of mine sent me a Moby Wrap after she heard that I was wanting one but didn’t know if I wanted to spend the money on it & was asking for opinions about it.
I was super surprised to get it in the mail!! And very thankful!

I was also super annoyed with this very long piece of fabric! How can something so simple give me such a headache!? I couldn’t get it right and I was making myself sweat from trying and getting mad. I finally said screw it! I was just going to have to not get anything done and wait for Mister to get home so he could help me.

I know that I am wearing the wrap wrong in every single picture, so please do NOT email me or comment telling me that I am. This was my first try and I got it but I didn’t.

This is me (and Lily) after I finally figured out how to wear it correctly! It took a few days but I finally got it!

I absolutely love this piece of fabric! If you are thinking about getting one go ahead and do it! I use my wrap almost every single day!

Anyone want to help out?!

I am wanting to hold another giveaway! And since I am not crafty enough to make anything, I was wondering if there was any businesses out there that wouldn’t mind helping out in this department.

It doesn’t have to be anything big and\or fancy! It doesn’t even have to be an item….a discount code would work just fine! I will leave what you want to donate completely up to you!

If you would like to participateĀ in this giveaway, then please email me at mommieventuresĀ @ gmail . com! I look forward to working with you all very soon!
